Agility - The Beginning

This was the first Agility page we published, detailing the start of the club's involvement with the Agility world, sponsoring a Junior team, soon to be followed by adult teams.

Midlands Border Collie Club is proud to announce its first Agility team, and what makes this one pretty special is that it's a team of youngsters competing in the YKC Team stakes in 2009.

The team all train with Staffs Agility School and one of the members is no stranger to MBCC Jess Cooke turned up to our Utility Day a few years ago, and not content with successfully putting her own dog around the Agility Course, she then followed this up by achieving Agility Section passes for the two dogs brought along by her aunt, Marie Cooke (...and that was before she was actively competing!!). Since then, within 12 months of starting, Jess & Misty have won into Grade 4 and achieved their Silver Agility Warrant.

All of the team were out and about over the winter of 2008/9, training hard and competing hard and getting ready for the outdoor season.

The Team Members are:

Sally Edwards (aged 24), running Fizz (BC - Aculsia Full of Fizz) ~ Captain
Tom Marks (aged nearly 12), running Vimto (BC - Stillmoor Vimto On Ice)
Jessica Cooke (aged 12), running Misty (BC - Rolo White Sox)
Amber Tunicliffe (nearly 13), running Blakey (Schnauzer - Canteba Black Boy Inde Ring)
Amellia Nicholson (8), running Eddi (BC - Edith Wesel Spellcaster)
Becky Marks (6 in July), running Pepsi (BC - Stillmoor Pepsi On Ice) ~ Reserve (when she's six)

The first show that the Team competed in was Shrewbury & District DTC's Open Agility Show, on Saturday 2nd May, but a number of them appeared individually at the Border Collie Club of GB's Open Agility Show (held in conjunction with their Breed Show) on Sunday 22nd March. Before that, Tom competed in YKC Agility at Crufts, on the Thursday.

The Team members are so busy that it proved difficult to get them all together for a team line-up, but we managed it at their Shrewsbury debut where they achieved 3rd place - congratulations! Best of luck for the future! Read the report from team manager Mandi Marks
