Novice Dog Pt 2 Critique

12th April 2004

My thanks to MBCC Committee for the invitation to judge & very many thanks to my brilliant steward, Margaret. I had a great day & was very impressed by the standard of some of the competitors. I'm not surprised that it is so difficult to win out of Novice at the moment. Certainly, my running order could easily change places on another day & there were half a dozen other dogs who worked with style & commitment but made a couple of mistakes that kept them out of the RO. I was pleased with my line up (2 red-merle collies in the line up!)

1st John Turtill with Bisquet Torra. WSD 13.11.02. A happy stylish dog beautifully worked by John. Very little to mark, Torra held a consistent position. I hope he takes you to the top, John. He should do - he's lovely! (Lost 1)
2nd Wendy Barnes with Wizard Of Rememberance. WSD 11.9.02. I wish I could have given two 1st place rosettes. I loved this dog. His heelwork was stunning! This was Wizard's 2nd show & his first rosette! Another dog that should go all the way. I wish you every success for the future. (Lost 2)
ARO
3rd Jean Hill with Forever Magic Action Man. WSD 16.3.02. Another super round with very little wrong. Stylish work caused a slightly wiggly bottom (inverting before turns) & points lost for a run-on in retrieve. A lovely dog - good luck with him. (Lost 2)
ARO
4th Domini Allday with Borderlair Taboo Too. WSD 20.11.02. Very little to choose between these 2 dogs either in the round or the run-off. Left turns the main problem today with the dog not reading Domini's commands quickly enough & also some inverting before turns. Lovely stylish dog with excellent set exercises. (Lost 2)
5th Lynne Smith with Foxfold Klassic. GSD 25.5.02. A very accurate GSD that held a good position. Very slight crabbing at times then caused problems with left turns (dog not squaring off). Crooked present & finish on both recall & retrieve. A stylish worker, Jaeger should do well. (Lost 3).
6th Joan Dixon & Larix Whisper. BC 16.4.99. Only minor faults. Anticipation on retrieve & slight loss of position on turns. Good luck with him. (Lost 3)

Best unplaced GSD Darren Wallace & Foxfold Kaleidoscope. GSD 25.5.02. Brother to 5th dog! Well done!
